Coaching looks to the future, supports you to make a plan to get to where you want to be and helps you to identify and overcome barriers to how to achieve your goals.
The really fab bit about cognitive coaching and hypnotherapy is that is helps you to change the negative thought patterns that are in your way and (and this is the really great bit) helps you develop strategies that you can use in the future.
For example - we can work to overcome that awful anxiety that's holding you back and develop mechanisms that you can use if you begin feel like this in the future. Long term change that you understand and have control of.
Using hypnotherapy alongside coaching enables you to access deeper understanding into the why and facilitates your own control of those deep seated barriers to feeling great.
Cognitive coaching uses many of the skills and techniques used in counselling.
One of main the differences is that coaching is forward looking and often solution focused with the aim to make change happen, we will look at where you want to be and how you can get there. Sometimes we will need to work out what patterns, beliefs or previous experiences may be holding you from reaching your full potential and how you are able to change the negative thought patterns (this is the cognitive bit).
Coaching is about change and action. The core purpose of coaching is to increase self-awareness so you can make choices that close the gap between potential and how things are now.
Coaching is about self-empowerment through self-awareness. It's a collaborative process with you at the center of the process.
There are lots of strange ideas about hypnotherapy!
Once of the biggest misconceptions is that you are in a 'trance' and the hypnotherapist has control of your actions. This is absolutely not true.
Hypnotherapy is a state of deep relaxation where your busy brain is quietened and you can listen to the part of your brain where your thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviors come from. In this calm state you can be helped to modify unconscious thoughts that are driving your everyday actions.
You're fully in control when under hypnosis, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state if you want to and can choose not to be hypnotised. Often we have a conversation while you are in this relaxed state - you are fully aware of what's going on around you. Often people feel refreshed and relaxed after hypnosis but the choice is always yours - we can still coach together!
Having worked in education for so long I have a real passion for mental health and well-being of young people.
The most common referrals I get for young people are anxiety and overwhelm, relationship/friendship group problems and just a feeling of 'not coping' (especially with school and the pressure to be everything to everyone).
I genuinely believe that if we can work with young people to explain where their thoughts are coming from, help them understand how they feel then help them develop mechanisms to deal with negative thoughts they can use these skills right throughout their lives.
